Each web site is run by a manager who has worked his way up through
the web direct brands ranks. Each manager then teaches interns the day-to-day operations
of their online store. Managers are responsible for everything from order fulfillment
and customer service to marketing and site development and vendor relationships.
Web Direct Brands also has technical and marketing staff to assist
all managers with project realization. During the first semester the intern will
be assisting a manager with all aspects of work. If invited to return for a second
semester, an intern may have the chance to develop their own start-up site. These
sites are developed using the same principles and management as the existing, flourishing
web direct brands e-tailers. Past the second semester, the opportunity exists for
further development within the web direct brands team.
Technology Internship
At Web Direct Brands we leverage technology to fuel the growth of our business and to help us achieve our goal of becoming the world’s largest e-tailer of speciality products. With a current portfolio of hundreds of specialty products across 50+ websites, we are always looking for ways to improve our existing technologies, websites, applications and IT processes. As a Technology Intern at WDB you will have the opportunity to put your education and experience to work in a fun, fast-paced environment where you can make a substantial and lasting impact while gaining practical IT knowledge and experience.
What You Will Do:
- Provide technical support for office end users, ensure smooth day-to-day operations of computers, applications, servers, and printers
- Train internal staff on the use of applications, new technologies and systems
Facilitate restoration/disposal of IT and office hardware, computers, and servers
- Maintain and optimize the current network infrastructure to improve speed, performance and security
- Implement an improved network printing solution
- Administer maintenance updates and backups of end user PCs and system servers, automating where possible
- Aid in smooth transition to a cloud-based network infrastructure
- You will also have the opportunity to work on a bigger project of your choosing (i.e. application development project, networking project, cloud migration, etc.)
Who/What We Are Looking For:
- An individual with a strong desire to learn - this one we are very serious about. We teach as much as we can, but we also give you the tools to self-teach and the freedom to make choices, errors and successes and to learn from it all. We are looking for an individual who is self-motivated to learn and develop solutions, passionate about IT and able to self-manage their daily activities and projects.
- Formalities in major selection is not so much our concern; we prefer people who are deeply interested in the internship and IT, and possess the skills to be successful and feel it can better their future. We are open to a wide-range of IT-related majors including Application Development, System and Network Administration, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, etc.
- Experience committing to jobs or interests. We realize this is an internship and we are not hiring seasoned pros - nor do we want to. We believe internships are a win-win. We provide an environment in which an intern can learn quickly and gain real-world IT experience, and in return you as an intern give our company the benefit of having someone with fresh outlooks on our business and IT processes. We do look for experience in commitment; documented, demonstrated commitment to work, school or community.
